Introducing Candy Cane

Stories in Sound

Candy Cane, Rapper-Singer-Songwriter
Known by her stage name, CANDY CANE (born Candace Lawson) realized her passion for singing while watching her two older brothers writing songs and listening to them
busting rhymes, driving down the streets in their family car. Soon she developed a love of rhythm and music. Those memories became the starting point that fueled her desire to pursue a dream of becoming a recording artist and hitting the stage.
Reflecting on the words of her late mother, “she always told me I was going to be somebody. She understood my passion for music and encouraged me to pursue my dream, while letting me know that I can do anything that I set my mind to do.” Remembering those prized words of encouragement, Candy Cane knew “it was all or nothing” for the 24- year Atlantan. Now she’s prepared to release her debut single, “INSECURITIES,” a blend of lifestyle hip-hop rhythm, written by Candy, and executive produced by award-winning record executive, Christopher Starr.
Everyone has those little voices in their head, but Candy Cane unveils them with real- life story transparency on her hot new track.
Candy admits, “In relationships we all have our weaknesses and our insecurities that makes us fall short from giving or receiving that true unconditional love we desire,” explaining the song’s concept.
With style and flow, Candy Cane confesses her own uncertainties and personal fears of being loved....“I remember when we first met/My heart was still upset from the last turbulent relationship/I guess I can say I was desperate/Dehydrated from the baggage/That I carried I was famished/And damaged/From the dirt that was done/I didn’t know I needed true acceptance from you/As soon as you tried to give it/I know I made it hard/Cause I was scared/I was scared of what you might do/And I was really petrified and terrified/Of what I’ll do to you.
Candy describes other low points in her life where she searched for support, both financially and emotionally, from friends and family, who only doubted her and took her music as a joke. Even in practicing her craft, she questioned her own abilities, but reminded herself that “when it’s something you set your mind to do, you will do what you have to.”
A multi-talented singer who self-described “versatile” rapper, hip-hop, pop, and R&B singer, Candy Cane can also boast gospel music as another passion to add to her music profile, smartly, naming other multi-talented inspirations that continue to inspire her in her to pursuit to never give up on your dreams.
Says Candy Cane, “Beyonce’ is one of my top favorites because of her hard work ethics. She works so hard to have the title she has; I desire to, and will, work as hard.” Complimenting Nicki Minaj’s versatility and body of work, she says, “there are many queens of rap but of this generation, she definitely deserves it,” and adding T.I., whom her brothers also looked up to. “Although he’s a trap-rapper his real-life situations and
the testimonies he uses in his music is like the same different stories I sing about. We are able to turn it into heart-felt rap music that others can compare to as well.
Her own life experiences and insecurities taught her that life is too short, to go after her dreams, and to use the hurt and pain she endured to set standards in life and go hard for all she desired and deserve.
Originally from Dallas, TX, Candace was raised as the only daughter with her two brothers in Atlanta, GA since the age of 2. Her parents infused hard work and faith-based values in their kids. After the loss of her mother, her father, whom she praises for his support in her commitment to choose singing as a career, became a single-parent who had to provide for his family. “He had to sacrifice a lot to help accommodate the vision I had, and it was very hard on him. At one point we were struggling week-to-week to make it through,” she adds. Today, I look at how far God has taken me. That’s true love
